Punjab Government’s decision to create Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority
The 10-member committee formed for the new authority of Chief Minister Punjab has prepared the proposal
The authority was directed to make it operational within 6 months
The new authority will be called (PERA), the Enforcement and Regulatory Authority will function at three levels
The first level of the new authority will work at the provincial level, the second level will work at the district level and the third level will work at the tehsil level.
The authority will consist of Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary and four members at the provincial level
The Authority will consist of 18 members
In which 10 senior bureaucrats, 4 members of the Punjab Assembly including the Chief Minister and as many independent members will be included.
Separate ‘Enforcement Stations’ from conventional police stations will also be created for this force
The officers of this authority shall have all the basic powers of the police, including the power to inspect, patrol and search any vehicle or person, seize goods and property and make arrests.
Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority will be monitored by Deputy Commissioners at district level and Assistant Commissioners at Tehsil level.
Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority will work in three sectors
The new authority will work on price control, anti-encroachment and state lands and anti-hoarding
The Chairperson of the Authority will be the CM Punjab and the Vice Chairperson will be the Chief Secretary Punjab
