About the Role

The Flink Platform team is building a robust control plane for the Flink product, backed by advanced database storage for high reliability and efficiency. This role is central to advancing Confluent’s Data in Motion initiative, delivering solutions for evolving stream-processing demands.

What You’ll Do

• Develop control plane services that orchestrate Flink job lifecycles — submission, scaling, and recovery
• Build Kubernetes operators and orchestrators for serverless resource management
• Design APIs for job management, multi-tenancy, and isolation
• Own code quality, test coverage, documentation, and maintainability for your components
• Draft designs for the Flink Control Plane, discuss them, and drive decisions with stakeholders
• Lead meetings, take initiatives, and participate in on-call rotations as part of the team
• Mentor less experienced engineers in control plane architecture and serverless Apache Flink

What You’ll Bring

• 10+ years of relevant software development experience
• Deep knowledge of distributed systems orchestration (Kubernetes, control loops)
• Experience building high-scale control planes, API servers, or cloud-native infrastructure
• Solid knowledge of containerization, networking, and resource isolation
• Strong problem-solving skills, translating complex requirements into effective solutions
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams
